Home Sweet Home! – all of us long for one to call his own. It protects us from the elements – giving shade against the heat of the day, warmth against the cold of the night, keeping away the discomforts of being blown around by the wind, soaked by rain, chilled by sleet and numbed by snow. It is keeps out unfriendly creatures intending to harm us – both human and others. It protects our possessions – great and small – that make our lives pleasant and comfortable.
We share it with those we love and wish to cherish. It gives us a feeling of family, of warmth, love and affection. It is the scene of shared emotions of joy and sorrow, where memories of occasions momentous and trivial have been forged. It is where we bring our friends to celebrate or mourn, to relax and let our hair down, where we let loose our feelings.
Be it a king’s castle or a poor man’s hovel, we make it hoping it would last our lifetime and of our progeny as well. We make it according to our wish and design constrained only by the quantum in our purse. It is also shaped by where we live – an igloo or a treetop house, a wooden cottage with a shingled roof or an apartment in a condominium.
Some are built on the beaches, some in the mountains and some on simple plains on solid ground. Yet others, like the ones pictured below are built – incredibly – on water. Have a look!
